HRD Approves Steps To Fill Gaps In Sarva Siksha Abhiyan
New Delhi, Jul 10 (UNI) Time-bound steps to improve learning levels of children and fill up infrastructure gaps in the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan were approved by Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh today.
The moves came after Mr Singh, as Chairman of the Abhiyan's National Mission, reviewed its progress, a statement by the HRD Ministry said.
This was the Mission executive committee's second meeting.
Mr Singh also released publications on district-wise data about elementary education and about children with special needs in SSA, the statement said.
'Elementary Education in India: Where Do We Stand' is an analytical report by the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration based on 2004-05 data from District Information System for Education.
Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan: Discovering New Paths in Inclusion documents home-based education practices for children with special needs in SSA.
It outlines the goals, processes and the impact of home-based education and reports States' initiatives, the statement said.
It said Himachal Pradesh and West Bengal use non-governmental organisations while Haryana has resource teachers visit homes to bring children basic functional skills and States like Tamil Nadu use special schools to give short-term help to such children and their parents.
