Heavy rains submerge low lying areas, disrupt life

Jamshedpur, Jul 10 (UNI) Heavy rains lashed Chhotanagpur plateau of Jharkhand and neighbouring areas in the past twenty four hours disrupting normal life.

Many low lying and residential areas in and around the steel city here were submerged due to incessant rains since last evening.

In some areas people were seen standing outside their flats till late night as rainwater gushed into the rooms due to inaduquate drainage systems.

At many places traffic came to a standstill, besdies many vehicles were also submerged.

The woes of the people multiplied with power cuts in many areas.

The train services in the Chakradharpur division of the South Eastern railways were also affected. Railway sources said a snag was detected in the railway track between Rourkela and Monaharpur stations, resulting in delay of Durg-Tata-Danapur Express and Nizamuddin-Puri Utkal Express, besides some other long distance trains.

MET office today recorded 132.5 mm rainfall in the last twenty four hours. Temparature, however, cooled down due to the incessant rain as maximum tempature was 27.4 degree Celsius while minimum recorded was 24 degree Celsius.
