H C asks CBI to file reply by July 20 in legislator murder case

Allahabad, July 10 (UNI) The Allahabad High Court has asked the CBI to file its reply, if any, by July 20 on the bail applications of Samajwadi Party MP Afzal Ansari and his brother and legislator from Mau assembly constituency Mukhtar Ansari in the BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai murder case.

Giving last opportunity to the respondents, the court said that hearing of the bail applications would not be adjourned on the date fixed on July 20.

Justice Ms Poonam Srivastava, passed this order on the bail applications of Afzal Ansari and Mukhtar Ansari on last friday.

Both the brothers are prime accused in the muder case in which the BJP MLA from Ghazipur Krishnanand Rai along with six others was killed under Bhavarcole police station of Ghazipur district on November 29 last year.

The CBI has started investigation of the case on the direction of the High Court. The Special Leave Petition (SLP) of the state against the CBI enquiry has been dismissed by the Supreme Court.

The Additional Advocate General of Uttar Pradesh Adish C Aggarwala has opposed the bail applications of Ansari brothers saying there was no reason to doubt the FIR lodged after the murder and the subsequent charge sheet filed by the police against them.

Former UP Advocate General Virendra Bhatia appeared on behalf of Mukhtar Ansari and said the applicants cannot be permitted to remain in jail for indefinite period. From perusal of the case diary, it appeared that the applicants were not involved in BJP legislator's murder case, he calimed.
