Gadkari demands Purke's resignation on schools issue
Mumbai, July 10 (UNI) Maharashtra BJP president and MLC Nitin Gadkari today demanded the resignation of Education Minister Vasant Purke from the Cabinet following a legal order cancelling approval of 1,459 schools in the state.
The Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court had recently cancelled the approval of all 1,459 schools, whose permmision was granted, allegedly violating the norms.
Mr Gadkari made this demand in the Maharashtra Legislative ouncil, during the discussion on various issues concerning education.
He was supported by Leader of the Opposition Pandurang Phundkar, Sena members Diwakar Raote and Arvind Sawant and others.
As the Opposition members raised slogans demanding his arrest, Mr Purke tried to defend himself by saying he would abide by the High Court directives, but, maintained he had done nothing wrong.
Mr Phundkar said since the High Court has given its verdict against him, he has no moral right to be in the Ministry.
