EC imposes restrictions on printing election material

Lucknow, July 10 (UNI) The Election Commission has imposed certain restrictions on printing material related to elections.

Referring to the Election Commission guidelines, Cheif Election Officer A K Bishnoi said name and address of printer/publisher should be mentioned clearly on pamphlets, posters and other material related to polls.

Besides, there should be a verified declaration by at least two people, who identify the printer and publisher. A copy of declaration letter would be produced by the printer before any competent authority within stipulated time.

In case of material being published in Lucknow, the printed material should be produced at the office of the Chief Election Officer and to the DMs' office of the district concerned.

According to section 127 A of the Public Representation Law 1951, any pamphlet of handbill distributed for effecting election of the contestant(s) would also be treated as election pamphlet/poster.

However, any material showing date, time and place of election would be out of this restriction.

Following violation of these directives, there is a provision of six months imprisonment, and Rs 2,000 penalty or both.
