Creation of new districts in J

Jammu, July 10 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the BJP today described the unilateral announcement of the state government to create eight new districts in the state and setting up a committee on human rights besides increasing 25 per cent seats, including those reserved for Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), in the Assembly as an interference in the functioning of the De-limitation Commission.

Demanding Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad's resignation, party's state vice-president and spokesman Dr Hari Om said the state governement had committed a grave constitutional impropriety by making such an announcement as it was for the De-limitation Commission to decide the number of assembly segments on the basis of the population and area of a particular region.

Dr Hari Om said the party was seeking legal opinion on the matter and would soon move court and challenge the government announcement made on July six in this context. He said the government could not direct or interfere in the functioning of the De-limitation Commission.
