Congress misuses power in Anantapur ZP election: TDP

Hyderabad, Jul 10 (UNI) Alleging that the ruling Congress Government has misused power and used muscle power in the election of Zilla Parishad Chairman in Anantapur district, the opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu today said 'it was an un-democratic process that the Congress elected its candidate for the Chairman post, despite the TDP getting absolute majority.

In Anantapur, the Congress won the ZP Chairman post amid high drama when the two dissident members of the TDP, who got a slender margin of two seats, defected to the Congress. Ms T Kavita of the Congress was declared elected Chairman amid Pande Moneum as the TDP members protested against the defection of their members.

Claiming that the TDP has evidences that the Chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy spoke to the TDP ZPTC members on mobile phone and the party would disclose the evidences at an appropriate time, Mr Naidu said the State Election Commission (SEC) should have suspended the ZP Chairman election, taking the issue as suo-motu.

Stating that the TDP had given opportunity to a Backward Class (BC) woman for the ZP Chairman post immediately after the results were announced for ZPTCs, he alleged that the Congress nominated Ms Kavitha, who belonged to the forward class and done injustice to BC community.

Terming that today was ''black day'' in the history of state politics, the former Chief Minister said the Congress got the ZP Chairman post against people's mandate, who supported the TDP in the elections in Anantapur district.
