Congress hits out at BJP for spreading rumours
New Delhi, July 10 (UNI) The Congress today lashed out at the BJP, saying that it was resorting to its old tactics of spreading rumours in a bid to destablise the Union Government and to create economic instability thereby working against the interest of the country.
"In a democracy it is a dangerous tendency on the part of a political party which claims to be a nationalist party,"Congress Spokesman Satyavrat Chaturvedi said and condemned the irresponsible conduct by the Opposition party.
In his first press briefing after being appointed a Congress Spokesman, Mr Chaturvedi said ever since the BJP was routed in the last Lok Sabha elections the BJP was expected to function as responsible and constructive opposition. Unfortunately, owing to the party being in total disarray, the BJP was suffering from a deep sense of frustration and stooped to the level spreading rumours about differences between the Prime Minister and the Congress President, about Prime Minister considering resigning and about disinvestment proposals put on hold under pressure.
Mr Chaturvedi said a Kolkata newspaper went to the extent of publishing a running commentary about what all happened that led to the Prime Minister almost submitting his resignation.
As if this was not enough, there was a news paper report that the Core Group which meets once in a week on Fridays would now meet frequently as if to say that it was in a midst of crisis after crisis, he said .
There was another cock and bull story that said that the UPA Coordination Committee would be reorganised, Mr Chaturvedi said, adding this irresponsible conduct by the BJP was designed to create political and economic instability.
