Chinese power plant likely in Pondy
Pondicherry, July 10 (UNI) A Chinese power plant is likely to be set up in the Union Territory of Pondicherry, Minister for Power V Vaithilingam said here today.
Talking to newspersons he said a delegation from China had visited Pondicherry and expressed interest in setting up a power plant here. The delegation including representatives from 'Fero Silicon'one of the largest companies in the world, had shown interest in bringing coal from China for the power generation here.
A discussion was held in this regard with the officials concerned, he added.
Mr Vaithilingam said the administration proposed to develop the lakes, where migratory birds used to visit.
He said such areas would be notified as protective areas and steps would be taken to prevent the inflow of industrial wastes by blocking and purifying it before flowing into the lakes.
The administration was taking steps for the provision of paddy incentives to the farmers to the tune of Rs four crore, which was due for the past 18 months, he added.
