Bullet proof security for Ram Janambhoomi after SC clearance

New Delhi, July 10 (UNI) Barricading of the entire Ram Janambhoomi-Babri Masjid complex with a bulletproof structure will be taken up only after securing the clearence from the Supreme Court, Union Home Secretary V K Duggal said today.

Addressing newsperson here, Mr Duggal said it was necessary as the Supreme Court had imposed a ban on any permanent construction at the Ram Janambhoomi complex in the year 2002.

Mr Duggal said this was part of the extra security measures that were recommended by the special task committee which looked into the security aspects of Ram Janambhoomi in Ayodhya and three others located at Kashi Vishwanth at Varanasi, Krishan Janambhoomi and the adjacent mosque at Mathura and Taj Mahal at Agra and had recommended they should be provided with high security cover to meet any possible threats from any militant group.

He said this committee was set up soon after a Jehadi attack at the Ram Janambhoomi complex by five militants which was repulsed in July last year.

Mr Duggal further said along with this it was also felt that the security cover of Ajmer Sharif in Rajasthan be also enhanced. Since providing security cover to these structures and places was a State matter so on the basis of this Special Committee's recommendations the State Governments asked for extra funds to initiate the extra security measures as suggested by the committee and accordingly the Centre has also sanctioned Rs 7 crore for that purpose.

Responding to queries whether the Centre has taken into notice the views or the apprehensions of the minority community on setting up of bullet proofing structure, Mr Duggal said, ''We have not yet talked to to them but all our efforts are on to ensure harmony among the various sections of society.''
