BJP protests exclusion from assoc. member of MCD Delimitation commn
New Delhi, July 10 (UNI) The BJP has voiced its protest against the decision of not sending the name of any party MLA as associate Member of Delimitation Commission for the MCD.
A delegation of BJP Legislative Party met Delhi Governor B L Joshi and Speaker of Delhi Assembly Ch Prem Singh to express their strong anguish against the decision of not sending the name of any BJP MLA as Associate Member of the Commission, Leader of the opposition in the Delhi Legislative Assembly Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Whip of Bhartiya Janta Party, Delhi, Sahab Singh Chauhan told reporters here.
''The Chairman of the Delimitation Commission had asked the Speaker of the Delhi Assembly to send three names of MLAs to be incorporated as associate members. He sent the names of Parvez Hashmi and Surinder Pal Singh Bittoo from the Congress Party but it is a matter of great regret that on behalf of the opposition, the Speaker sent the name of Mr Ram Vir Singh Bidhuri who belongs to a party which is having only single member and is unrecognized opposition party in the House,''Prof Mukhi and Mr Chauhan said.
''BJP strongly opposes this decision of the Speaker. BJP is the main opposition party in the Delhi Assembly with 20 members of its own and is the only recognised opposition party in the House.
Hence, the party has the natural right to put the opposition view point in the Delimitation Commission for the MCD. Violating all the established norms and conventions, BJP has intentionally been kept out and none of its members has been taken,''they said.
Stating that if opposition was not represented in the Commission and opposition viewpoint not presented before the Commission then it shall become meaningless, the Leaders demanded that the Speaker call back the list, amend it and incorporate one of the BJP MLAs into it in consultation with the Leader of Opposition.
In this connection, they have written a letter to the Speaker expressing their displeasure.
