2.5 mllion Indian children afflicted with cerebral palsy
Lucknow, July 10 (UNI) An estimated 2.5 million children in India are afflicted with Cerebral Palsy (CP), while 150 others are falling prey to it every day.
Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan account for almost 70 per cent of the total cases.
Addressing a media conference here, eminent orthopaedic Dr Vipul Shah said CP was not a disease, but symptoms of several ailments.
CP is a disorder of movement and posture, that appears during infancy and early childhood. It is caused by non-progressive damage to the brain -- before, during or shortly after birth.
''The damage to the brain cannot be cured, but its ill effects can be reduced from the hands and legs.'' Meanwhile, Mr Shah yesterday held a one-day free medical camp here for providing information to people regarding CP teh disease.
