'Southern Empire' wins Kingfisher Derby

Bangalore, July 09 (UNI) Punters choice and hot favourite ''Southern Empire,'' ridden by Jockey B Prakash easily won the prestigious Kingfisher Derby Bangalore (Grade-I), the main event of the Bangalore Summer Meeting 2006, held here today.

The winner was the joint property of Dr M A M Ramaswamy and Mr Zavaray S Poonawalla, representing Poonawalla Racing and Breed Limited, and trained by S Ganapathy.

While Ganapathy scored four winners, Jockey B Prakash scored a double.

Punters had a field day with seven favourites obliging in a card of nine events.
