SEC working for ruling Congress in AP says Naidu

Hyderabad, July 9 (UNI) Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today alleged the State Election Commission (SEC) was working for the ruling Congress in Andhra Pradesh.

Criticising the SEC for issuing notification to hold the 'gram panchayat' elections without 'correcting the electoral rolls,' he told reporters here the Electoral Registeration Officers hadcommitted grave irregularties at the time of inclusions and deletions during the preparation of the revised voters lists at the behest of the ruling Congress leaders throughout the state.

When the matter of bogus and genuine voters in electoral rolls was in the court, the issuing of notification by the SEC was improper, he pointed out and asked why SEC was in a such a hurry to conduct the 'gram pachayat' elections without clearing the issue of the electoral rolls.

The SEC was supposed to conduct elections in a free and fair manner as per democratic norms, Mr Naidu said and added the Commission should not act in a way, which benefitted the ruling party.

The TDP would start peoples' movement to expose the irregularities committed by the SEC, he added.
