Police jawan commits suicide at Mata Vaishno Bhawan

Katra, July 9 (UNI) A police constable allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself at Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan in Udhampur district this morning .

Sub Divisional police officer(SDPO) at Bhawan Mr Shakti Pathak told UNI the constable Gyan Chand ,resident of village Bathuar under Mazhalta police station in Udhampur district ,was posted at Police and CRPF joint frisking post near Gauri Bhawan.

He said as per initial reports the constable had left the post at around 1000 hrs for taking food in the guard room. Security personnel deployed at the post heard a gun shot and found the contable lying in pool of blood in guard room. A Medical team was called on the spot to provide treatment but he was declared dead.

Mr Pathak said it was not clear whether the constable committed suicide or died of accidental fire. Only the day before yesterday he had returned from home after availing four days leave, he added.

He said his body has been sent to Civil Hospital, Katra, for postmortem and from there it would be handed over to family members.
