Chennai, July 9: Tamil Nadu Hindu Munnani Organiser Rama Gopalan today took strong exception to the reported move of the Tamil nadu Government to acquire temple lands for distribution to landless poor.

In a statement here, Mr Rama Gopalan said the move will destroy temples in due course as these lands were the main source of revenue for them.

Instead the government could acquire surplus lands from rich people for implementing the scheme.

He warned of a state-wide agitation if the government failed to retract from its move and called upon Hindu organisations and like- minded religious set-ups to spread awareness among the Hindus and devotees on the government's proposal and protect the temple lands through satyagraha.

The DMK, in its election manifesto, had promised to give two acre of land free to landless poor if voted to power.
