Man commits suicide in Narmada canal with 3 children

Vadodara, July 9 (UNI) In a bizarre incident, a mentally-retarded man today committed suicide along with his three minor children in the Narmada main canal near Khandiwada village under Waghodia taluka, about 30 km from here today.

Police sources said Rupsinh Nayak (45), a resident of Gansar village under Halol taluka of neighbouring Panchmahals district, threw his three children into the canal and then jumped himself to death.

The four were swept away to a distance of about two km from the suicide spot due to the strong current of the water, and the firemen finally traced their bodies near Jarod this evening.

The three minors have been identified as Dasiben (10), Dinesh (8) and Shivram (4). Their bodies have been sent to Halol for post-mortem. Waghodia Police are investigating the case.
