Heavy monsoon showers lash Punjab, Haryana
Chandigarh, July 9 (UNI) The season's first heavy monsoon showers today lashed the northwest plains, bringing down the temperatures two to four degrees below normal in both Punjab and Haryana.
The maximum rainfall in the region was recorded at Ambala at 51.7 mm, followed by Karnal (47 mm).
In Punjab, Patiala was lashed by 42 mm rainfall, while Amritsar received 25 mm.
The mercury dropped four degrees below normal amidst the heavy rainfall, giving respite to the people from the humid conditions which was prevailing for the last four days.
Shimla, was lashed by 50.7 mm rainfall, followed by Sundernagar (46 mm), Bhunter (22 mm) and Kalpa (3 mm).
The national capital was lashed by 10 mm rainfall, where the maximum temperature also dropped four degrees below normal at 31.4 degrees celsius.
The city and its surrounding areas of Punjab and Haryana were lashed by 39.2 mm rainfall, where the mercury dropped two degrees below normal at 32 degrees Celsius.
The weather office here said that moderate to heavy rainfall would occur at most of the places in Himachal Pradesh and at many places in Punjab and Haryana for in next 24 hours.
It also gave a warning of a very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh and parts of Haryana.
