BEST offers phone facility for commuters

Mumbai, July 9 (UNI) Having learnt a hard lesson on the July 26 last year when the city was flooded after the record high monsoon of 949 mm, the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) has fitted its buses with phones in order to keep the onboard passengers in touch with their near and dear ones.

BEST Public Relations Officer (PRO) A S Tamboli said the telephone services are being made available on 15 buses on pilot basis. During the last week's heavy rains, many passengers had availed this facility to contact their families.

The telephone service has been started based on the response the undertaking had received from the passengers to its FM radio service on about 30 Star buses, he said and added that the telephone service would be extended in phases.
