3rd unit of Kaiga to begin operations from year-end

Sirsi, Karnataka, July 9 (UNI) The third unit of the Kaiga Atomic Power station would start functioning from this year-end, Mr Harsha Kapur, Project Director, Kaiga third and fourth Atomic Reactor, informed today.

Speaking at a function at Karwar, he said work on the two units were going on at a rapid pace and already over 90 per cent of the job was over. If the work proceeded as per schedule, the third unit would earn the distinction of being one of the few units completed fast in the country. The fourth unit would commence operations in June next, he added.

Mr G Nageshwara Rao, Project Director of first and second units of the Kaiga Atomic Power station, said the Nuclear Power Corporation would allow school students to visit the power plant at Kaiga.

A Kaiga model would be constructed at Karwar for public information, he added.
