Panaji, July 9 (UNI) The 16-day budget session of the Goa Legislative Assembly beginning here from tomorrow is likely to be tempestuous with the BJP opposition sparing no effort to pin the Congress-led coalition government down on many counts.

Several issues, including the recent Roman script versus Devanagari script of Konkani language that took an ugly turn with vitriolic South Goa MP Churchil Alemao threatening to lead an agitation for Roman Script, is likely to figure prominently.

Several feel religious overtones on the issue with the catholic church demanding a presidential order, recognising the Roman script Konkani besides seeking intervention of AICC president Sonia Gandhi recently to prevail upon chief minister Pratapsingh Rane even as the party leader heading the Vichar Vibhag Uday Bhembre opposing it.

The BJP alleges there is literally no government at all in Goa with the Congress and its partners engaged in internal squabbles and internecine quarrels on one issue or the other failing to concentrate on administration.

Frequent and prolonged power breakdowns and drying of taps even in the rainy season, traffic snarls, mounting rate of crime, closure of the famous Zuari Bridge on the Mumbai-Goa national highway for heavy traffic following cracks on the bridge are other issues likely to figure in the session.

Added to this was the neglect of Konkani and Marathi education at the primary level following encouragement to opening English medium schools, the BJP feels.

It also pointed out the controversy surrounding the introduction of an English primary, Marigold which, however, was later referred to the board of studies.

Meanwhile, the Legislature Secretary T N Dhruv Kumar told UNI that the first three of the session would go for general discussion on budget and the three Fridays for private member's business.

The rest of the ten working days will go for routine business besides introduction of financial bills and bills replacing ordinances including the one related to office of profit.
