Soz hails formation of new districts in J
New Delhi, July 8 (UNI) Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz today hailed Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Gulam Nabi Azad's decision to create eight new districts in the state, saying it would go a long way in fulfilling the aspirations of the people, especially those living in far-off areas.
Describing the decision as ''timely'', Prof Soz complinented the Chief Minister telephonically.
The minister said the creation of 14 new Tehsils and three sub-divisions also would help further streamline the administration.
On Thursady, the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister had announced creation of eight new districts, taking their number to 22 from the existing 14.
Describing his decision as ''historic'', Mr Azad said, ''Over the years, much water has flown down the rivers. We want to take the state on the path of progress and prosperity.'' According to the decision, both the divisions of Jammu and Kashmir will have four new districts each.
Bandipora, Kulgam, Ganderbal and Shopian in Kashmir division and Samba, Kishtwar, Reasi and Ramban in Jammu division are the new districts.
Jammu and Kashmir will now have a total of 22 districts. The state till date had 14 districts - Srinagar, Pulwama, Anantnag, Kupwara, Baramulla and Badgam in Kashmir division and Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur, Doda, Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region Leh and Kargil in Ladakh division.
