Release prisoners not convicted of serious crimes: HC

Jaipur, July 8: The Rajasthan High Court has ordered the immediate release of all those prisoners who have not been convicted of serious crimes or of endangering national security but have been languishing in jails for long.

A bench of Justices Shiv Kumar Sharma and Chatraram directed all session judges to take immediate action.

The director general, jails presented a list of those prisoners in the court who have been languishing in the jails for long but do not have any cases of serious crimes against them.

The home secreatry was present during the hearing yesterday and apprised the court of the actual status of prisoners.

The High Court directed the sub-registrar to prepare a list of such prisoners and send them to all session judges to take action in the cases soon.
