Police arrests contract killer

New Delhi, July 8 (UNI) Police have arrested a dreaded criminal, wanted in several cases of murder and extortion, after an encounter in South Delhi.

Sandeep Chitana alias Sanju Pehalwan (24), was arrested yesterday after an encounter in Munirka area.

Police recovered a .32 revolver, five live cartridges and a .315 bore country made pistol from him.

Police had information that Sandeep would come to Munirka. They had cordoned off the area. When police flagged him down he tried to speed away on his motorcycle.

He abandoned his motorcycle after a brief chase and opened fire on the police personnel. He was arrested after the encounter.

Sandeep was wanted in nine criminal cases, including three murder and two Arms Act cases.

The Haryana and the North West Dehi were on a look out for him. Police had declared a reward of Rs 15,000 on him.

Sandeep will be produced in a city court tomorrow.
