One lakh teachers take part in competition

Chennai, Jul 8 (UNI) For the first time in the country, about one lakh teachers took part in the preliminary rounds of the competition in teaching skills organised by the Tamil Nadu State Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (Education for All) Directorate at the block level.

Educational department sources said that out of these one lakh teachers, 150 were shortlisted for the state-level competition conducted yesterday.

The shortlisted teachers were asked to conduct class for students and were given 10 minutes to teach their subject.

A three-member panel of judges rated the teachers based on the teacher's knowledge of the subject, teaching methodology, interaction with children, usage of teaching-learning materials and body language while conducting class, the sources added.

The teachers were given a topic and asked to conduct class with the local available material. They were rated for a score of 250 each for first and second session.

In the final competitions to be held today, three teachers would be selected in each subject and 15 teachers would be awarded, the sources added.
