Monsoon active over Coastal and South Interior Karnataka

Bangalore, July 8: Following is a summary of observations recorded by the weather office at 0830 hours today.

Monsoon was active over Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka. Rainfall occurred at a few places North Interior Karnataka.

Very Heavy Rainfall amounts (cm): Karwar 16; Agumbe 14; Gerusoppa 13. Heavy Rainfall amounts (cm): Siddapura, Nilkund 12 each; Bhatkal 9; Kollur, Honavar 8 each; Karkala, Kundapur 7 each. Other chief rainfall amounts (cm): Sirsi,Yellapura, Shirali, Londa, Thirthahalli , Kammardi 6 each; Mulki, Mani, Subramanya , Jayapura, Lakkavalli 5 each.

Forecast valid until Monday morning: Rain/thundershowers likely to occur at most places over Coastal Karnataka; at many places over South Interior Karnataka and at a few places over North Interior Karnataka.

Farmers Weather Bulletin: Moderate to heavy rain likely to occur at most places over all districts of Coastal Karnataka and at many places over Shimoga, Chikmagalur Kodagu districts of South Interior Karnataka and Belgaum district of North Interior Karnataka. Light to moderate rain likely to occur at a few places over Haveri and Dharwad districts of North Interior Karnataka and Hassan, Bellary, Chitradurga, Davanagere districts of South Interior Karnataka and at isolated places over remaining districts of North Interior Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka.

Heavy rainfall warning: Heavy rain may occur at a few places with isolated very heavy falls over Coastal Karnataka during next 48 hours. Heavy rain may also occur at isolated places over ghat areas of South Interior Karnataka during the same period.

FISHRIES WARNING: Strong onshore winds from westerly direction speed occasionally reaching 45 to 55 kmph likely along off Karnataka coast during the 24 hours effective from 1400 hours IST of 8th July 2006.

Forecast for Bangalore city: Generally cloudy. Light rain in some areas. Strong surface winds gusty at times.
