Monsoon active in east UP

Lucknow, July 8 (UNI) Monsoon has finally become active in eastern region of Uttar Pradesh with several places recording heavy rainfall in the last 24 hrs.

Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Faizabad and Kanpur divisions were lashed with heavy downpour, the weatherman said here today.

Khadda in Deoria district received maximum rainfall at 18 cm, followed by Brijghat 15, Gorakhpur 12, Bansi 9, Kakrahi 8 and Ballia 5 cm.

Following showers accompanied by high velocity winds, the temperature also plunged below noraml, especially in Allahabad and Varanasi divisions.

However, the mercury hovered above normal in Jhansi, Bareilly and Agra divisions.

Kanpur was the hottest place in UP recording 40 degrees Celsius.

The met office said isolated places in northern and south-eastern regions of the state are likely to witness heavy rains in the next 48 hrs.

Similarly, squall forecast has been given for Meerut, Moradabad, Bareilly, Lucknow, Faizabad, Gorakhpur, Varanasi and Allahabad divisions.
