Heavy rains subside in south Gujarat
Surat, July 8 (UNI) Monsoon has started subsiding in many parts of South Gujarat after two days of heavy rains.
Many rivers including Poorna, Kaveri and Ambika in the south Gujarat region were flowing upto the dangerous level on Wednesday.
But by yesterday, the rivers are flowing below the danger mark.
''Situation in Navsari is now quite normal as water in both the Poorna and Kaveri had come to normal level,'' an official with Navasari district collectorate told UNI.
He also said those who have been evacuated from the low-lying areas are returning to their homes.
In Valsad 'taluka' the situation is now normal and many evacuees have returned to their homes, sources said.
In Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) area, people have come back to their houses from the shelters by Thursday, SMC sources said.
However, many people from slum areas were admitted to the hospitals in the city after heavy rains.
''They are admitted with normal diseases like fever and diarrhoea but no serious diseases were noticed,'' sources at Surat Municipal Institute Medical Education and Research hospital added.
