Governor concern over pending cases

Patna, July 8 (UNI) Bihar Governor R S Gavai today expressed his concern over the backloging of cases in the different courts of the state.

After inaugurating the 'annual general conference' of Bihar Judicial Services Association here, Mr Gavai said about three crore cases were pending in different courts of our country.

Out of them about 2.25 crores cases were pending in lower courts.

Three thousand posts of judges were vacant, he added.

Mr Gavai said vacancies of judges, lack of infrastructure and corruption were responsible for backloging of cases. He suggested to fill the vacancies of judges at the earliest, for creating of more posts of judges, enhancement of number of courts and development of infrastructure to tackle the menace.

He said modernisation of judicial system is the need of time as it would minimise the corruption.

Mr Gavai said judiciary is the guardian of constitution and it plays an improtant role to protect the constitutional rights of the citizens.

Speaking as chief guest of the function Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said government had already taken decision to obey the recommendation of Setty Commission to provide facilities to the judges.

He said it is the duty of the government to provide justice to backward class of the society.

Presiding over the function Chief Justice of Patna High Court Dr J N Bhatt said preparation of a charter of duties for judges is the need of time. He said proper care and help should be granted to the poor litigants to ensure their confidence in the judiciary.

Former Justice of Patna High Court Sarvar Ali, Justice Mrs Indu Prabha Singh and Justice R N Prasad were among the other dignitaries present on the occasion.
