Good inflows into Krishna, water recedes in Godavari

Hyderabad, July 8 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh continued to receive significant inflows into Krishna river from Karnataka even as the level in Godavari river came down bringing relief to people living in low-lying areas.

The water level in the Godavari in the temple town of Bhadrachalam came down to 33.2 ft, 2.86 m at Dowleswaram Barrage in Rajahmundry and 9.28 m at Dummagudem this evening, official sources here said.

As Almatti received an inflow 1.84 lakh cusecs and Narayanpur 1.72 lakh cusecs, the authorities in Karnataka released 1.71 lakhs cusecs from Almatti and 1.78 lakhs from Narayanapur.

Following this, 2.13 lakh cusecs was realised at Jurala and 45,561 cusecs at Thungabhadara.

A huge quantiy of 2.29 lakh cusecs was received at Srisailam and 62,367 cusecs at Nagarjunasagar, raising hopes for a good harvest in the Rabi season.

With this, the level at Srisailam rose to 833 feet from 816.70 feet. If the same inflow continues, the dam would attain its full capacity of 885 feet within ten days, the officials said.

The water level at Nagarjunasagar rose to 547.80 feet as against the full capacity of 590 feet.
