DPI urges Centre to intervene in Lankan crisis

Chennai, July 8 (UNI) The Dalit Panthers of India (DPI), General Secretary Thirumalavan today urged the Union Government to intervene in the Sri Lankan Tamil issue immediately to protect the rights of the Community in the island nation.

In an all-party meeting organised by the DPI in support of the Sri Lankan Tamils, Mr Thirumalavan appealed to the Tamil Nadu Government to insist on the Centre to intervene in the issue.

''The Indian Government should not extend any help, either direct or indirect, to the Sri Lankan Government'', he said.

DPI Deputy General Secretary Selva Perunthagai MLA, founder President of the All India Muvendar Munnetra Munnani Sethuraman, Deputy General Secretary MDMK Mallai Sathiya, and Tamils Protection Movement founder President P Nedumaran were among others who participated in the rally.

Thousands of volunteers of the parties took part in the rally which culminated at Chepauk.
