Counselling for MBBS, BDS courses begins on July 10

Chennai, Jul 8 (UNI) The Counselling for MBBS and BDS courses would commence on July 10 and it would be extended upto July 17, according to State Health Minister Mr K K S S R Ramachandran.

Talking to newspersons here today Mr Ramachandran said the students with cutoff mark 299.25 and 298.16 would attend the counselling on the first day of counselling, which commences on Monday.

He said the last candidates with the cut-off mark of 222.96 were expected to attend the counselling on July 17.

There were 1645 seats in all the 13 medical colleges and IRT medical college in the state, of which 15 per cent seats would be meant for All India Quota and the remaining 1458 seats would be allotted to the local eligible students, he said.

The minister said they have intimated the students over phone regarding the counselling. ''As the first day of counselling is only for children of freedom fighters, physically challenged and children of ex-servicemen, it would not be a problem for them to attend the counselling, as there would be very less people taking part on the day,'' he added.

Confusion prevails over the medical counselling schedule as the Directorate of Medical Education has planned to hold the counselling from July ten.

A section of Students from southern districts complained that they will not be able to attend counselling on that day as all the buses and trains were fully booked.

It is also surprising that the DME is conducting counselling on July 14, which coincides with medical entrance exam to be conducted by PSG and Chettinad Colleges for the management quota seats.

Under the circumstances, it would be difficult for the students appearing for the examination to take a chance for seats in self financing colleges, too.
