CBI chargesheet against Allahabad Divisional Commissioner

New Delhi, July 8 (UNI) The CBI today filed a case of forgery against senior IAS officer Lalit Varma, currently the Allahabad Divisional Commissioner.

Varma has been charged with forging date of birth documents to get additional government service of 35 months. The chargesheet was filed in the designated court here, a CBI spokesman said.

The CBI said there was ''overwhelming documentary evidence'' as well as reports of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) to press the charge that Varma changed his date of birth on certificate from March 1, 1959 to February 13, 1962.

The case was registered on a complaint sent by the Department of Personnel and Training on August 13, 2002. The CBI filed a closure report in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court of Delhi on January 14 last year, but the case was reopened after the DoPT challenged the closure report.
