BSF-BDR flag meeting calls for ceasefire
Basirhat, July 8 (UNI) The Border Security Force(BSF) and Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) today had a flag-meeting at Saidpur near Taki in North 24 Parganas and called for a cease-fire following the July six skrimisbes along the border.
A 20-minute flag-meeting between the company commanders of BSF and its counterpart from Bangladesh on the zero-line of Indo-Bangladesh International Border, ended with the agreement of ceasefire from both sides.
Jalalpur, Saidpur (Sodepur) and an adjoining village in the Indian territory experienced firing from the BDR since early morning of July 6 till midnight ignoring the white flags hoisted by the BSF camp.
BSF Company Commander Kumar Laxman leading a nine-member team alleged that BDR opened fire on Havilder S K Das, who was chasing smugglers crossing the border and added such firing provoked retaliation.
However, no casualty was reported from either side, Mr Laxman added.
The BDR team was led by its Debhata Company Commander Mohammed Yunus.
