Three new RS members from Kerala take Oath

New Delhi, July 7 (UNI) Three newly-elected members of Rajya Sabha were administered the Oath of Affirmation by Chairman of the House Bhairon Singh Shekhawat here today.

The three members--Prof P J Kurien of the Congress, Mr K E Ismail of CPI and Mr P R Rajan of the CPI(M)--all from Kerala, were elected in June for a period of six years each.

Their term, however, started from July two.

While Mr Kurien was re-elected for a second term, Mr Ismail and Mr Rajan are first timers.

Mr Ismail took the Oath in Malayalam and the other two in English.

Among those who were present at the brief oath-taking ceremony in the Chairman's chamber were Leader of the Opposition in the House Jaswant Singh, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi and his Minister of State Suresh Pachauri.
