Pondicherry, Jul 7 (UNI) The Pondicherry unit of the CPI(M) today urged the administration to take immediate steps to start the government medical college.

Party Secretary V Perumal, in a statement here urged the administration to start the medical college during the current year itself.

He also urged the government to take immediate steps to secure 70 per cent government quota in private medical and Engineering colleges here.

The party would organise demonostrations at four seperate centers on July 14 to press these demands, he added.

Mr Perumal pointed out that at the time of granting NOC to private Medical and Engineering college, it was announced that local students would get 80 per cent seats. However, the Pondicherry administration failed to bring it in the framework of any legal security resulting in the private colleges refusing to provide more than 15 per cent seats now.

Criticising the Territorial government for allegedly supporting the private college managements, the CPI(M) leader demanded that steps be taken to get 85 per cent government quota and regulation of fees structure on the lines of Kerala.
