Stamp-registeration dept second top revenue earner in UP

Varanasi, July 7 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh stamp and registeration department has become the second top revenue earner after Trade Tax (TT) department in the state.

Interacting with newspersons here today, UP minister for stamp and registeration Harishankar Tiwari informed the department had become the second top revenue earner.

He said three years back, the department's annual revenue stood at Rs 1,200 crore, which has now registered nearly three fold increase to Rs 3,300 crore.

''We now aim at out-performing the TT department to gain the top slot in revenue earnings,'' Mr Tiwari added.

The minister said computerisation of all the offices and the preservation of records through computerised scanning was on the cards.

Advanced computer scanners costing Rs 14 crore are being purchased to scan and preserve 13 crore record sheets.

The minister, who is also the national president of Loktantrik Congress Party (LCP) said although the outfit intended contesting all seats in the 2007 UP assembly polls, it was open to alliances with partners of ruling coalition including the Samajwadi Party.

Mr Tiwari said an extensive membership campaign will soon be launched to increase the LCP base from 45 UP districts to the entire state. He said the annual LCP convention will be organised at Lucknow on July 31.
