Sensex slips to 10,509 on false rumours about PM
Mumbai, July 7 (UNI) The BSE Sensex swung 447 points on a day full of volatility and closed 258 points in the red at 10,509.53, as rumours about Prime Minister Manmohan Singh relinquishing his office gained strength in the later half of the day.
The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensitive Index (Sensex) had closed yesterday at 10,767.97 points.
Major BSE sectoral indices declined, led by oil and gas sector, which was down by 3.50 per cent, followed by metals, FMCG, IT and auto, all down by 3.50 per cent, 2.39 per cent, 2.38 per cent, and 2.63 per cent, respectively.
Scrips that gained on the index were - ICICI Bank, Bharti Tele and NTPC, being up by 2.84 per cent, 0.98 per cent and 0.92 per cent, respectively.
The losers were - HDFC, Reliance Industries, Wipro, Tata Steel, SBI, Reliance Communciations, Hindalco, Hero Honda, ITC, and Tata Motors, all down between 3.35 to 5.14 per cent.
