New Delhi, Jul 7: The Supreme Court today dismissed a petition seeking direction to Municipal Corporation of greater Mumbai not to permit Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan to construct a multi-storey complex adjacent to a heritage building.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Y K Sabbarwal and Justice C K Thakker, while dismissing the petition observed that no illegality was involved in the construction of the complex and the Mumbai High Court order doesn't call for any interference.

The petitioner Cyril Thomas Meewan, claming to be the president of Bhartiya Pheriwala Ekta Sangh, had alleged in his petition that Shahrukh Khan had used his wealth and influence to get clearance from the authorities concerned and was blocking the site of the heritage building.

Incidentally, the heritage building which was earlier called Vilavienna and is now known as Mannat in Bandra, is the residence of film star Shahrukh Khan.

The High Court had dismissed the petition of Meewan holding that all requisite permission and clearance for the construction of the complex had been duly obtained and there was nothing illegal.

Despite the High Court order, Mr Khan did not take chance and filled a caveat in the Supreme Court praying that no relief should be granted to Meewan without prior notice to him.

Today's order means that the film star can go ahead with the construction of his multi-storey complex.
