Reuters to launch host of news services

Mumbai, July 7 (UNI) Global news services major Reuters today announced that it plans to offer various kinds of news to its subscribers in order to tap the vast news market the country boasts of.

Reuters South Asia Managing Director Samir Shah told UNI here this morning that after successfully opening its office in Bangalore recently in its bid to outsource the journalism from the country, Reuters has many more plans up its sleeve. The most striking feature of the new venture would come in the form of launch of a news service, which would provide news to the farmers through SMS.

''We are planning to go to the news commodity market in India in the days to come,'' he said.

Mr Shah said that apart from the international news service, Reuters was also interested in launching Hindi news service of its own and was keenly awaiting for the government's nod. It would be possible when the government allows the foreign direct investment (FDI) in media of the country.

Though the country has a host of news agencies, there was still scope for the international news agencies like Reuters which are modern, totally unbiased and equipped with independent branches in a number of countries.
