PDS has to be revived: Bardhan
Hyderabad, Jul 7: Expressing concern over the 'erosion of food security' under the UPA Government in the country, CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan today called for revival and streamlining of the Public Distribution System (PDS).
Participating in CPI National Council meeting here, Mr Bardhan said the party would organise agitations, dharnas and rallies against the government for not taking steps to check the rise in prices of essential commodities.
The UPA Government must also stop forward trading in cereals and pulses to check the price rise, he said.
Mr Bardhan said the meeting would review the party's performance in the Assembly elections held recently and adopt resolutions on reservation and Palestine issues besides discussing the political developments in the country.
