Meghalaya MLA laid to rest

Shillong, JulY 7 (UNI) Meghalaya's Independent MLA Predickson G. Momin, who died here yesterday, was laid to rest at his home constituency Rongjeng today.

He was 31 and is survived by wife and a son.

Assembly Speaker Martin M Danggo and Home Minister Robert Garnett Lyngdoh, and other MLAs were among those who attended the last rites of Mr Momin at Rongjeng in East Garo Hills district.

Meghalaya Governor M M Jacob expressed shock and grief while condoling the sudden demise of Mr P G Momin in the prime of his life ''when he had so much to contribute to the public good''.

Terming Mr Momin ''as the rising star in the political firmament of Meghalaya,'' Mr Jacob said his death would create a vacuum for the state of Meghalaya.

Chief Minister JD Rymbai and his cabinet colleagues and MLAs cutting across party lines condoled the untimely death of Mr Momin.

Meghalaya State BJP had condoled the sad and premature demise of Momin. The BJP members also observed a two-minutes silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul.

Mr Momin was elected to the seventh Meghalaya Legislative Assembly after defeating his Congress rival and former Transport Minister Sujit K Sangma during the state Assembly election held on February 26, 2003.
