Man dies in police custody

Balaghat(MP), July 7(UNI) A 50-year-old man died in police custody last night after he was summoned to Charegaon police outpost in this district for questioning on a dispute with fellow-villagers over money deal, police said today.

Police said K P Shrivastava might have died of heart failure.

Inspector General of Police C V Muniraju said the Sub-Divisional Officer(Police) and a Tahsildar had been sent to the village, 17 Km from here, to investigate into the incident.

Mr Muniraju said Shrivastava, a resident of Charegaon, was summoned to the police outpost around 2000 hours last night to record his statement on a dispute with few villagers over money deal of about Rs 2800. He died during interrogation and a local doctor, who reached the police outpost, declared him dead.

The body was sent to the district headquarters for postmortem, police said.

The victim's son Ravishankar said he also accompanied his father to the police outpost, but was asked to wait outside during the interrogation.
