Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award function on July 15

Chandigarh, July 7 (UNI) As many as 122 sportspersons will be conferred the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award in a star-studded function on July 15 at Zirakpur.

Punjab Sports Director and Olympian Pargat Singh informed that Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh would present the highest state sports award to those who have brought laurels to the country by winning medals at national and international competitions.

''The recipients of the award will receive Rs one lakh, a trophy of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, a blazer, tie and citation.

This time, the cash award has been hiked to Rs one lakh from Rs 21,000,'' said Pargat Singh Among the awardees are star cricketers Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Dinesh Mongia and Reetinder Singh Sodhi, hockey players Pargat Singh, Baljit Singh Dhillon, Gagan Ajit Singh and Ramandeep Singh, athletes Sunita Rani, Bahadur Singh, Madhuri Singh, Jagdish Kumar Bishnoi, Jasmine Kaur, Sagardeep Kaur and Harjit Kaur besides shuttlers Sachin Rati and Vijadeep Singh.

Twenty one athletes have been selected for this award, apart from 16 wrestlers, 15 hockey players, 10 handball players, eight basketballers as many cyclists and judokas, seven shooters, six volleyball players, five lifters, four boxers, as many cricketers, three gymnasts and equestrians, two shuttlers, one fencer and a table tennis player.
