IMA branch demands reinstatment

Rajahmundry, July 7 (UNI) Indian Medical Association (IMA) Rajahmundry branch has today demanded that Centre must reinstate Dr P Venugopal as Director of All India IUnstitute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

Addressing newspersons, IMA Rajahmundry branch President Dr V S Santharam and Secretary Dr G Srinivas said the citizens of Rajahmundry felt insulted about the action taken by Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss in dismissing Dr P Venugopal as Director of AIIMS unceremonioulsy.

Dr Venugopal hails from Rajahmundry. He was honoured with Padma Bhushan.

The goverenment has removed him from the post in a hasty manner.

Dr Venugopal should be reinstated forthwith, they said.

They said they have also sent their representation to President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Chairperson, UPA, Ms Sonia Gandhi in support of their demand.

Meanwhile, BJP Rajamundry unit volunteers burnt an effigy of Dr Ramadoss to protest against his action.
