HC makes TDB appointments subject to its decision

Kochi, Jul 7 (UNI) Kerala High Court today ordered that any appointments made by the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) pursuant to its decision to introduce 33 per cent reservation for backward classes, Scheduled Castes and Tribes will be subject to the decision of the Court.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice V K Bali and Justice M Ramachandran issued this interim order on a writ petition filed by Nair Service Society (NSS) General Secretary P K Narayana Panicker challenging the provision for reservation for backward classes in the Travancore Devaswom Board.

According to the petitioner, the Devaswom Boards were devoid of jurisdiction to introduce reservation by exercising powers exclusively conferred in the State under the Constitution of India.

The Court, while admitting the plea, directed the Devaswom Board to file a counter-affidavit within two weeks and adjourned the petition for final hearing on August 14.
