Foreign tourists arrival increased by 13.9 PC during 2006

New Delhi, July 7: The total foreign tourist arrivals in the country from January to June, this year have registered an increase of 13.9 per cent compared to the corresponding penod last year.

According to information received here, total arrival during this period was placed at 21,54,890 as against 18,91,228 foreign tourists arrived previous year.

The rise was significant since the very beginning of the year, but the number of foreign tourists arrival declined from 444753 in January, 2006 and came down to 262860 by May this year Despite the presence of heat wave across North India the number of foreign tourists went up in June to 286257.

The total foreign exchange earnings in rupees from the foreign tourists during the period under review this year stood at Rs 13440.98 crores as against Rs 11619.97 crores earned during the corresponding period in the previous year and the foreign exchange earning in terms of dollar stood at 3017.47 million US dollar as against 2661 Million US dollar of the previous year, said an official release issued here today.
