Financial powers for Panchayat functionaries

Bhopal, July 7(UNI) The Madhya Pradesh government is seriously considering to grant financial and administrative powers to Block Panchayat Presidents.

''Block Panchayat presidents must get administrative powers and facilities according to constitutional norms. Detailed discussions in this regard will be held with the Panchayat Minister and suitable decision taken'', Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan told a delegation of block panchayat presidents and vice-presidents here yesterday. Mr Chouhan said a conference of Block Panchayat Presidents would be held soon.

The delegation demanded restoration of administrative and financial powers withdrawn by the previous government.

Meanwhile, Mr Chouhan issued instructions for additional budget allotment to districts, if necessary, for Kanyadan Yojana, under which mass marriages are organised for poor and destitute girls.
