CBI registers case in Kargil coffin scam
New Delhi, July 7 (UNI) A criminal case has been registered against a former Major General, two Colonels and a private vendor in connection with the scam in purchase of Aluminium caskets and body bags for the Indian Army during Kargil War, the CBI said today.
The case was registered under sections 120B, 420 IPC and 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against Major General (Retd) Arun Roye, Col S K Malik, Col F B Singh and M/s Buitron and Baiza, Texas, USA, following preliminary enquiry into the deal, a CBI spokesman said.
While Roye was the military attache at the Indian Embassy in the US, the two Colonels were the Director and Joint Director of Master General Ordnance during the Kargil war.
The CBI, which began investigating the matter last year, said preliminary enquiry showed that rules were flouted and exhorbitant rates paid for the caskets and body bags used to bring home the bodies of martyrs from the battlefront.
