1,642 pilgrims leave for Amarnath holy cave

Jammu, Jul 7: A fresh batch of 1,642 pilgrims today left here for the Himalayan cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir.

The group of devotees, comprising 1015 men, 452 women, 22 children and 153 sadhus, left from the base camp at M A M stadium early this morning under tight security in a fleet of 48 vehicles, officials said.

More than 46,500 pilgrims from across the country have left for holy cave from Jammu since the commencement of the pilgrimage.

Nearly 1.8 Lakh pilgrims paid their obeisance at the shrine this year since June 10, the sources of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) said.
